Name: Echosong
Gender: she-cat
Age: 15 moons
Rank: Warrior
Clan: ThunderClan
Physical Description: Echosong is a slender she-cat with small, dainty paws. Three of her paws are white, the fourth back-right paw is black. Tabby stripes cover her soft silver pelt like a tiger's, framing the white blaze on her chest. She has eyes the color of maple leaves in the summer glory of greenleaf; a deep, clear emerald green. The stripes around her face are a lighter grey and harder to see, but as they run around to the back of her neck, the stripes are the darkest of black and stand in stark contrast to the light silver underneath. A wide scar runs the length of her back left leg, carving a rift through her fur. No fur will ever cover that skin again. There's also a small v-shaped nick in her right ear.
Personality: As her name may suggest, Echosong is quiet and shy. As a kit, she rarely played with anyone but her brother, Nettlefrost. This resulted in a tendency to let Nettlefrost do the talking for her. She's always afraid she will say the wrong thing and the other cats wouldn't like her because of it. She is, however, fiercely loyal to her Clan. When it comes to battles, there is no trace of her usual timidity. Echosong trained well and, while she lacks the strength needed for leadership, she can follow orders like it's her job. There's a certain stubbornness within that won't let her leave an order un-followed. She's much more comfortable at the outside edge of a crowd than in the center. While some cats mistake her for being aloof and cold, she is one of the nicest, sweetest cats you'll meet--if you can get her to actually talk to you. She loves her brother, Nettlefrost, more than any cat in the world and would do anything for him. In her eyes, he can do no wrong. Nettlefrost is also the source of her standing within the Clan. The Clan respects Nettlefrost and his fighting skills, and Nettlefrost is fiercely protective of Echosong; he doesn't allow her to be forgotten or ignored. The two siblings are close and know everything about one another. Nettlefrost is the only cat Echosong can talk freely with. But inwardly, Echosong longs to be close to other cats as well. She just lacks the courage to reach out and let others know that.
History: Echosong was born to ThunderClan as Echokit. Her parents were ordinary ThunderClan warriors who had trained together as apprentices and eventually fell in love. She and her brother, Nettlekit, were the only kits in the nursery when they were born, because their mother did not rest enough from her warrior duties and there was a complication. Echokit and Nettlekit were born early, before the snows of leaf-bare had melted. The first few days of their lives were dark and cold, and it was almost too much for Echokit. Only with the herbs and warmth from the medicine cat and her mother did she survive. Once the weather started getting warmer, Echokit got stronger. Nettlekit rebounded from the cold like it was nothing more than a burr on his tail and was pestering his mother and sister for days on end with his energy. He finally convinced Echokit out of the nursery and the world she found outside the sheltered brambles was amazing. She fell in love with the beauty of everything around her. Echokit and her brother grew fast and strong, but still playing alone. No other kits had been born.
Six moons passed and the two kits became Echopaw and Nettlepaw, apprentices of ThunderClan. For Nettlepaw, this was just more freedom to do what he wanted when he wanted. He was always dashing off through the forest to do one thing or another or get into more mischief. Echopaw followed more cautiously and quietly, but always following her brother. When Echopaw and Nettlepaw moved into the apprentice den, Echopaw realized how little time she'd spent with any cat other than her brother. She was immensely shy and tended to place herself behind her brother so as to be noticed less. While Nettlepaw made a great many friends, Echopaw hardly talked to any other cat. Some saw this as pride; that Echopaw thought herself better than the others. But in reality, she was afraid of saying the wrong thing. She wanted the other cats to like her, but she was also afraid that they wouldn't. So she stayed silent.
Echopaw trained hard and made her mentor proud with how focused and devoted she was. Her shy nature seemed to disappear whenever she was in training and she was a good, solid warrior. Not the best, by far, but she was dependable and loyal and always did what she was asked. Echopaw and Nettlepaw were among the oldest apprentices when the battle with ShadowClan erupted. Things had been tense for a few moons, but both sides had managed not to spill any blood. ThunderClan planned a secret night raid to warn ShadowClan to back off, but as they were crossing the border, the ThunderClan patrol met up with a ShadowClan patrol that had set off with the same thing in mind. The two clans battled fiercely on their borderlines for most of the night, sending back for reinforcements. Echopaw and Nettlepaw fought side by side and they made a good team, ducking and biting and clawing completely in synch. Suddenly, the ShadowClan deputy yowled for retreat and Echopaw and Nettlepaw stopped fighting, their sides heaving in exhaustion. But then cruel claws gripped Echopaw and pain ripped through her leg. Nettlepaw spat and leaped on the ShadowClan warrior, trying to tear him off his sister. Nettlepaw saw the blood that pooled from Echopaw's wound and a blind rage consumed him. He sank his claws deep into the ShadowClan warrior's flanks and tore at the enemy. The cat screeched in pain and thrashed, forcing Nettlepaw to release him. The apprentice sheathed his claws and backed away as he felt all eyes on him. The two clans were completely silent before, as if on silent agreement, both clans turned and retreated back into their own territory. Nettlepaw helped carry Echopaw back to the medicine cat, who patched her up as best he could. But there was nothing he could do about the huge jagged scar that she would have for the rest of her life.
Both apprentices recovered, although there was a new wariness around Nettlepaw. They'd all seen him easily beat that ShadowClan warrior, and he was only an apprentice. Nettlepaw acted as if he didn't care, but Echopaw knew it bothered him. She tried to comfort him as best she could, but there was a new part of her brother that she couldn't reach. The two were still close, but something separated them now. It was an experience she couldn't share with him--an experience she didn't want to share with him. But Nettlepaw was her brother and she would love him anyways.
For their bravery and skill in that ThunderClan battle, both apprentices were awarded their warrior names in the age-old ceremony. Echopaw became Echosong and Nettlepaw became Nettlefrost. Echosong took up her warrior duties, still quiet and shy, still obedient and fiercely loyal. Her leg still sometimes pains her.
